  • Kindred Healthcare Student Placement Requirements

    The Faculty and Student must attest that the following requirements have been completed and are on file with the school or the student will have to provide documentation directly to the Student Program Manager for their program.

    1. Passed Background Check- school faculty coordinator will be responsible for providing acknowledgment the student has completed and passed a background check which meets Kindred Healthcare criteria, including a OIG/GSA search.

    2. Passed Drug Screen- school faculty coordinator will be responsible for providing acknowledgment the student has completed and passed a standard 5 panel drug screen

    3. Immunization Requirements- school faculty coordinator will be responsible for providing acknowledgment the student meets the below immunization requirements:
    - PPD or CXR Negative Test Results
    - Hepatitis B Vaccination declination/Consent (Titer)
    - Influenza Vaccination
    - Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella
    - Tdap (one time administration) or Tetanus.

    Top 3 Frequently Asked Questions

    - What do we do if we do not run a background check or drug screen on our students?
    A background check and drug screen are required by Kindred Healthcare in order to complete a clinical education placement in our facilities. The student will be responsible for obtaining and providing proof of passed completion prior to the start of their placement.

    - What is a OIG/GSA search?
    Specific to the healthcare field and employers with government contracts, the Office of Inspector General?s (OIG) and Government Services Administration (GSA) reports a list of Excluded Individuals/Entities in a database of those persons or companies barred from participating in any federally-funded healthcare programs. A search for the student through this database is required.

    - Faculty are not able to hold these records on file or attest to these records for our college/university. What should I do?
    If the school faculty coordinator is unable to provide the information during the registration due to college/university policy, comments should be made in the comment section and the student must provide copies of all documents directly to the student program manager for their college/university prior to the start of the clinical internship.
